Anne of Green Gables Week

I'm pretty sure the Charles Dickens Week was the first "blog event" I've ever participated in. As much as I love books and period dramas and blogging, I'm not much for blog events. Doesn't really make sense, I know.

However, I've always loved Anne of Green Gables. Maybe because Lucy Maud Montgomery writes so well. Maybe because the movies are great. Maybe because I'm so not like Anne Shirley. Maybe because I've been to Prince Edward Island. (Might have a post about that later.)

Anyhow, I just decided recently to read the AGG series this summer, and I thought this would get me in the right spirit. =) So I'm going to participate again at Yet Another period Drama Blog by filling out this questions tag.

1. How many of the Anne books have you read, and how many of the films have you seen?

Now I have to be honest...only 1 and 1/2 books! Pitiful, I know. Which is why I decided I'd read the whole series over the summer. But I've seen all the movies...even the last "continued story" which sadly really isn't about AGG at all.

2. If someone yanked your hair and called you carrots, what would you do to him?

Probably nothing. I'm passive, and have a temper to match my hair (because it isn't red). Not to say I'd let the person get away with it completely. =)

3. What would you do if Josie Pye dared you to walk the ridgepole of a roof?

See answer to #2.

4. If you had the opportunity to play any AGG (I'm abbreviating from now on because I am a lazy typist) character in an AGG play, which role would you choose?

I'd say Marilla Cuthbert. I think I'm a lot like her in some ways. More on the stern side with a dry sense of humor, yet not really as stiff as first appear. =)

5. If you were marooned on a desert island, which AGG character would you want to have as a companion? (Anne, Gilbert and Diana are not options. Let's keep this thing interesting. Not that they're not interesting.... oh, yay, now the disclaimer to this question is longer than the question itself. Lovely lovely lovely.)

Josie Pye. Either I'd make it a challenge to reform her, or I'd annoy her so badly she'd run from me and I'd be alone again. =)

6. If there was going to be a new adaptation of the Anne books and you could have any part in making the movie, what would you choose to do? (screenwriting, acting, casting, costume-making are a few possibilities)

Help write the film score! Music really makes a scene, and Hagood Hardy did such a good job, I'd like to see if I could match it!

7. What are, in your opinion, the funniest AGG book/movie scenes? (choose one from the books and one from the movies)

Now you're making me think too hard. I'm terrible at remembering lines and things. Pretty much any scene with Mrs Lynde is hilarious to me!

8. What are, in your opinion, the saddest AGG book/movie scenes? (choose one of each again)

When Matthew dies! DUH!

9. Which AGG character would you most like to spend an afternoon with? (again, Anne and Gilbert and Diana are not options for this one--think secondary characters)

Muriel Stacey. She's so pleasant and agreeable, and probably would have a few things to say about just about anything!

10. What is your definition of a kindred spirit?

Some who is similar to you, who understands your likes and ideas, who is loyal and dependable, and who is kind and loving.
