The Pleasures of God
Recently my pastor did a Wednesday night series on the pleasures of God, based on John Piper’s book of the same name. So naturally I was excited to see the revised edition of said book available for review through Waterbrook Multnomah’s blogger program.
This is an excellent, must-read book!! (Right up there with “Desiring God” by Piper.) He begins by expounding on why God takes pleasure in Himself and why anything else would be idolatry. Other chapters cover the pleasure of God in His Son, in His creation, and in bruising His Son, among others. Then “the tables turn” and we see how God finds pleasure in us and why--both enlightening and encouraging!
Piper does so well giving a thought, expounding on the thought, citing Scriptures that address the thought, answering questions or disclaimers about the thought, and then bringing you full circle with a now much more understandable, compelling thought. (Unlike this sentence of mine.)
Obviously there’s too much in the book to go into detail, so trust me when I say you just have to read it for yourself! You won’t be wasting your time, and you certainly won’t regret it.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for this honest review.Rank my review HERE.
