As Silver Refined

As Silver Refined: Answers to Life's Disappointments
Having done several Precepts studies and a “Lord” series book, I was very excited to finally read my first book by Kay Arthur. And I was not disappointed (especially considering that‘s the topic of her book!).

“As Silver Refined: Answers to Life’s Disappointments” was an excellent book in every way. Always faithful to Scripture, Kay Arthur addresses the problem of the downward spiral of the 5 five deadly D’s: disappointment, discouragement, dejection, despair, and demoralization (the last three of which are different forms of depression).

She gives hope and light by turning your focus away from yourself, your problems, or your circumstances, and points you to God, remembering that He is always there, has a purpose and plan for you--even through the hard times--and will give you grace and victory to endure.

She uses several life examples from letters she’s received, or her own personal experiences.

Included is a 13-week Bible study, which explores many more passages from the Bible on each topic addressed in the chapter, including why God allows suffering, how to face disappointments, learning meekness, believing God’s sovereignty, and finding courage, joy, hope and victory.

This is a great resource whether you’re struggling with these issues yourself, or helping a loved one walk through a difficult phase in life. As Kay would point out, though, remember that the Bible is your first source for answers for heartaches, disappointments, and failures!

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for this review.
