When I was 14, the Cardinals were having a hot post season and made it to the World Series (only to be swept by the Red Sox, but don’t remind me). I wrote this Cardinals theme song during that 2004 post season, and it has been appropriate for nearly every post season since then (especially 2006–and maybe 2011??). So I’m pulling it out again in honor of tonight’s NLCS game.
(To the tune “Since Jesus Came Into My Heart”. Please don’t think me sacrilegious. I was 14. And the tune worked oh so perfectly.)
What a wonderful change in this season has been wrought,
Since the Cardinals have been playin’ hot.
They have hope for the Series for which long they have sought,
Since the Cardinals have been playin’ hot.
Refrain:
. Siiiiiince (traditional fermata ) the Cardinals have been playin’ hot,
. Since the Cardinals have been playin’ hot.
. Floods of joy fill their soul,
. Much like winnin’ the Sugar Bowl,
. Since the Cardinals have been playin’ hot.
They’re possessed of a hope that is steadfast & sure,
Since the Cardinals have been playin’ hot.
And no dark clouds of doubt now their pathway obscure,
Since the Cardinals have been playin’ hot.
Refrain
We shall go there to watch in St. Louis, we know,
Since the Cardinals have been playin’ hot.
And we’re happy, so happy as onward they go,
Since the Cardinals have been playin’ hot.
Refrain
Go Cardinals! Beat the Phillies!!!
